Lesson One

In this lesson, students will learn the different ways in which audiences can access news. Students will open with an introductory activity and interview a classmate. Through this activity, students will learn about open-ended and closed questions.

Lesson Two

In this lesson, students will consider hot news stories at their school, as well as develop an understanding of article features.

Lesson Three

In this lesson, students will develop skills in identifying the who, what, where, when, why, and how (5Ws and 1H)in news articles. You will also need to read this article on the SNT website.

Lesson Four

In this lesson, students will develop their interview skills. The lesson begins with a 'funny headlines' creative activity. Students will then choose a member of school staff (teacher or the principal, for example) to interview. Students will compose their own interview questions - a combination of open and close-ended questions.

Lessons Five and Six

In this lesson, students will display their understanding of journalism and compose an article based on a 'Hot News' topic at their school. Students can submit their articles to this website to have their work featured on LIHSnewsteam.org
