International Women's Day Seminar

Updated: Mar 30, 2021

Reporter: Tori Henderson (Year 8)

On the 12th of March, select girls from year 7 - 12 were invited to participate in an International Women's Day seminar. The girls heard from ex-student Michelle Toms, who spoke to the girls about hard decisions they will have to make in their lives, but that there are many positive outcomes for persevering. She stated that there would be challenges in our lives, but overcoming obstacles develop our strength and resilience. Our greatest strength is within ourselves and we should not be afraid of taking risks or challenging ourselves.

The girls then heard from local female Neuroscientist, Ms Diana Karamacoska. Through several activities, Diana encouraged the girls to look within themselves and identify the qualities that make us all unique but connected at the same time. The girls enjoyed composing positive affirmations for their group mates and it was a very meaningful seminar.

The girls then enjoyed morning tea and had the chance to ask our guest speakers questions about their lives and journey to becoming successful women. It is important to support the strong female figures in your life and let them know that they are appreciated. The event was prepared by Ms Nicholson and Ms McLoughlin with the assistance of Mrs Cormack and Mrs Stephens for the amazing catering.
