Multicultural Cook Off

Updated: Dec 1, 2022

On the 22nd of November, the Multicultural Cook Off was held here at our school. Different foods were made by elders with the assistance of Year 9 and Year 10 Food Tech students. There were 5 teams that each cooked foods from different cultures. This year is the first time that an Indigenous team has been included in the cook off. There were 4 other teams: Portuguese/Italian, Serbian, Greek, and Macedonian team. We were fortunate enough to try the foods and they were all absolutely delicious! - By Kristy-Lee Milliner

Walking into the 2022 Multicultural Cookoff, the smell of each country's dishes welcomed me. It reminded me of both my Mum’s, Grandma’s and Nonna's kitchen, all cuisines embodied as one. I first got the opportunity to sit with Nonna Anna of the Italian/Portuguese team. She began to explain what their team had cooked. For Italy’s dish, spinach and ricotta cannelloni, and as all dishes this had its memories associated. Nonna Anna told me of the many times her and her family spent together preparing the dish and handmaking the pasta from scratch. - By Chae Conte

Lake Illawarra High School has amazing teachers and staff who make days like this a reality. Thank you to everyone involved - what a fantastic day!
