Illawarra Schools Excellence in Vocational Education & Training Awards have been held for over 20 years. The Awards recognise the fantastic efforts and great achievement of young people completing VET courses as part of the HSC.

This year, over 1200 students are completing a VET course in the Illawarra as part of the HSC and 32 of these students were nominated to receive a Certificate of Excellence in the course they were studying.
Students were nominated either by their host employers with whom they completed on the job skills training through work placement, or by their schools. They were then assessed by a panel of education and industry representatives as worthy recipients of a Certificate of Excellence in Vocational Education & Training.
A huge congratulations to Brody Mitchell for winning the award for Metals and Engineering!
Tori Henderson interviews Brody on his achievements in the video above (scan the QR code). Brody stated that he enjoyed refining his skills in Metals and Engineering and he’s incredibly grateful to have such a fantastic teacher, Mr Cohen. A huge congratulations goes out to Mr Cohen, as he has had a massive year with Brody’s award and he also had VR Welding machines installed at LIHS. Mr Cohen has also designed and created many features of LIHS with his Construction students and students from other classes. For example, in 2006, Mr Cohen and his Year 11 Construction class created the Quiet Quad! They build all of the huts, put in a drainage system, planted the many trees and shrubs in the garden, and more!
We're very lucky to have such passionate teachers at our school!
